20世纪90年代以来，随着中国零售业的逐步开放，我国零售企业开始面临国外零售企业的强大挑战。 面对外资零售企业的稳步扩张，我国零售企业迫切需要提高自身竞争力以应对日益激烈的市场竞争。目前，我国零售业供应链管理水平不高，投入不足，随着零售业的开放和世界一流零售企业的进入，我国零售业面临强大的挑战，因此，如何加强和完善零售业供应链管理，是我国零售业提高核心竞争力、应对入世挑战所亟待解决的问题。 本文所要解决的核心问题是：在面对外资零售企业的稳步扩张的形势下，我国零售企业应当如何加强供应链管理，建立怎样的供应链管理体系，从而有效解决在市场竞争日益激烈的情况下，随着商品价格的竞争，零售企业的利润空间被挤压等一系列的运营现实问题。 本文通过对连锁零售企业供应链管理相关理论的综述，对国内连锁零售企业供应链管理的发展现状和存在的问题进行了总结，综合运用案例研究分析方法、定性研究方法、定量研究方法和规范性理论研究方法，对物美集团的内外部环境进行案例分析，从中找出物美集团的成功之处和存在的问题，为物美集团提出了稳步扩张、适当放权和重视人才的三个政策建议，为国内连锁零售企业供应链管理提出推动规模化经营、加强信息化建设、加强与供应商的合作、加强供应链管理水平和谨慎涉足电子商务等五大建议。
