我国目前是世界第一大能源消费国，而且对于能源的需求和依赖还将随着经济的飞速发展而持续增长。电力行业是我国能源系统的重要组成部分，对我国经济稳定发展起着至关重要的作用。电力行业最主要的构成部分就是火力发电，作为微观主体的火力发电企业在稳定生产电能的同时，其发展也衍生出了许多问题，如原料电煤利用率低、对生态环境破坏严重等，使得经济发展与资源环境间的矛盾日益加剧。面对上述亟需解决的问题所带来的压力，实行可持续发展是火力发电企业突破发展瓶颈的唯一出路。 本文围绕火力发电企业可持续发展战略展开研究。从火力发电企业自身的实际情况出发，研究了国内外学者提出的可持续发展、企业可持续发展、火力发电企业可持续发展和企业战略管理相关理论；从火力发电企业发展现状和内部环境两方面对火力发电企业内部环境进行了分析，包括火力发电行业概况、企业组织结构和经营现状、火力发电企业资源现状分析、生产运作管理分析、生产技术分析、人力资源管理分析、内部现有竞争者分析等方面；从政治和法律环境、经济环境、技术环境和社会环境四个方面对火力发电企业宏观环境进行分析并结合五力分析模型对火力发电企业外部环境进行了分析；根据火力发电企业可持续发展战略制定的原则和可持续发展战略的类型，运用SWOT分析法对火力发电企业可持续发展战略选择进行了分析，对火力发电企业可持续发展的战略思路和目标给予了明确的定位，制订了火力发电企业可持续发展的总体战略及具体措施，运用层次分析法对火力发电企业可持续发展进行评价；从组织、制度以及处理好五大关系等方面对火力发电企业可持续发展战略提出了保障机制。
